A woman died Monday after being hit by a firetruck in Northern Virginia, authorities said.

Ashley Boardman, 23, of Middleburg, was killed in the crash, Fairfax County police said in a news release. Boardman’s family declined to comment on the case.

Police said at about 2:18 a.m., officers and fire and rescue personnel arrived at Glade Drive, west of Laurel Glade Court in Reston, to investigate a report that a woman who appeared to be intoxicated was on the ground in the road. When the first police officer arrived, a person waved at him to get his attention, and he passed Boardman without seeing her “lying in the roadway,” police said.
